I found these questions as a way to review the past year. There were a ton of them, so I picked the ones I like the most. They were a;already layer out by category, so that made it pretty convenient. Just cut and paste and start answering the questions. I think this is pretty fun and a good way to reflect. Hit THIS LINK if you want to check out where I found the questions.
For now, I’ll get started with…
What were your favorite TV programs?
The Walking Dead, Dare Devil, Modern Family, and I really enjoyed the ending of Justified.
What were your favorite books?
Didn’t get to read much this year. I did get a little caught up on The Walking Dead comic, though.
What was your favorite movie this year?
I loved Inside Out, Jurassic World was pretty fun, and Ex Machina was flat out amazing. 2015 was a good year for movies. I would have to give out honorable mentions to Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, The Gift, Ant-Man, and Creed. I still have a few to see, but they will have to wait until 2016. I am starting out my New Year by seeing Star Wars on January 1st. Not a bad way to bring in 2016.
I know Mad Max was considered best movie of the year with some groups, but I thought it was just pretty good.
What song will always remind you of this year?
Ex’s & Oh’s by Elle King. My daughter CONSTANTLY requests that one.
What musical artist did you listen to the most this year?
Jimmy Eat World, of course!! But that’s every year.
Did you attend any concerts, plays, or art events this year?
Nope. Hitting up the movie theater and the pub were about it as far as big events go in 2015. I did get to see Abby speak a couple times though. That was nice. I am looking forward to when the kids get a little older so I can take them to sporting events and wrestling shows. That’ll be fun.
What did you wear often in your closet?
Flannel shirts and blue jeans.
What was your hair style this year?
Short on top and long on the chin. Actually, this is the year I decided to grow out the beard.
Describe your style of this past year in one word?
Because of this past year, what do you believe is your purpose?
I actually spent a lot of time wondering how I am supposed to be using this blog and social media. Should I be pushing my faith, should I stick to pro-life posts, should I be doing videos, should I be posting more about my kids, what do people expect from me, and how would God want me to use this platform? The answer I came up with is, “DON”T WORRY ABOUT IT!!!”
I think the worst thing I can do is put myself in a box. I just keep writing and hope that I am representing myself (and God) well as a Christian with a positive family message.
What is one word that describes your relationship with God this year?
Where did you find the most peace and calm this year?
In the Eucharist.
Where did you feel most connected to God this year?
In those little surprising moments.
What was the most loving service you performed last year?
Does adopting a baby count? That’s going to come up a lot.
What is the greatest lesson you have learned this year?
Just go with it. Leave yourself open to what God has in store.
I want a ‘do-over’ with…
Star Wars, but I am fixing that tomorrow. Maybe I’ll throw in Fantasy Football too.
I would use a magic wand to change…
My Finances. Just to be debt free and have the kids college payed for. Not to stop working and live like a king.
I want to repeat…
My entire High School experience. Might as well fix it all.
I was embarrassed by…
How bad I am at punctuation and spelling.
Respect for people that support Trump for president and everyone that bought into the idea that Obama has done a good job.
A son and new friendships.
Nothing for this year. Well, maybe I could have tried a few more beers or had more alone time with the wife.
I am thankful for…
All my new friends I have made through writing and blogging. We share so many interests like beer, movies, beards, and most importantly… our Catholic faith. I earn more from them every day.
I felt most alive when…
The kids go to bed and I can just relax.
What was the smartest decision you made this year?
Again, I am going to go with adopting our son. Also, we bought a 12 passenger van. I love it!!!
What one word best sums up and describes your experience last year?
What was the biggest risk you took?
Adoption wins again. And it was a risk. Taking on responsibility for another person’s life, and I mean their whole life, that feels pretty risky. That being said, I am glad I took the plunge.
What are you most grateful for this past year?
So much!!! No idea where to start.
What do you wish you had done more of?
Read. I really wish I had taken more time to read non-fiction faith based books.
What do you wish you had done less of?
Who were the three people who had the greatest impact on your life last year?
My wife and FaceBook friends. Crazy, right? I had a lot of social media friends and followers that sent me a lot of good advice, prayers,
Did anyone close to you give birth (literally or symbolically)?
My sister had her first, so I became an Uncle for the first time. It was awesome!!!
Whose behavior or what event appalled you?
Anyone and everyone that that showed hate towards the police. All these riots have been absolute nonsense. The Black Lives Matter people are so full of S#!T!! If they really cared, their cause would move beyond police brutality. They would also encourage people to stop doing stupid stuff that gets them in trouble. Common sense.
How did you positively influence a child (or the next generation) this year?
By being a stay at home dad. I think being a constant presence to my kids is the best thing I can do for them. Taking them to Mass and having them present for the most important thing we do all week has been huge too. They are starting to catch on and I think they are starting to understand how important our faith is.
Who made you laugh the most this year?
My kids. Parenting is a constant comedy show.
So there it is, folks. My year in a nut shell. Here’s to 2016!! Maybe I can do it better. It will be tough.
