My Top 10 Disney Songs

My Top 10 Disney Songs

mickFrom the movies to the rides, our family loves all things Disney.

Right now, as I write this, our good friends are driving their family to Disney World for their first Disney vacation. A family of five, with the oldest being 8 and the youngest being 5, they are primed for the time of their lives. They posted a video of the kids in the back of the the truck singing “Let It Go” at the top of their lungs. (Well, not the oldest. He hates that song now.) I loved that they are 200 miles away and getting themselves pumped by listening to Disney songs. It inspired me to make a list of what I believe are the top 10 greatest Disney songs. Feel free to disagree or add some in the comments. There are certain ones that truly capture the magic of what Disney is all about. For me, these are my faves. (This is a harder list to make than you think. SO MANY GREAT SONGS!!!)

10.”A Whole New World” (Aladdin)

9. “Once Upon A Dream” (Sleeping Beauty)

8.”You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!” (Peter Pan)

7.”Gaston” (Beauty And The Beast)

6.”I Wan’na Be Like You” (The Jungle Book)

5. “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” (Mary Poppins)

4. “When You Wish Upon A Star” (Pinocchio)

Bonus Video:

3. “You Got A Friend In Me” (Toy Story)

2. “Friend Like Me” (Aladdin)

1. “Be Our Guest” (Beauty And The Beast)

This is the only one that is set in stone for me. I don’t think there is a better song that expresses the entire disney experience. This song is great performed live at the park, and I still get goose bumps every time I see this part of the movie. One time when Abby and I were at Disney World Waiting in line to meet Mickey and Minnie, I struck up a conversation with the family in front of us. They had two young boys with them and one of them had Down Syndrome. I asked how the Disney experience was for him and they said it was awesome. The park goes above and beyond for everyone with special needs. Sorry for being cheesy, but this song came to mind while she told me how well everyone treated her son. They truly want every one to feel like a special guest.

Honorable Mention:

“When She Loved Me” (Toy Story 2) I cry every time I hear this one.

“A Girl Worth Fighting For” (Milan) We just think it’s a cute one.

“I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” (Hercules) One of Grace’s faves.

“Heigh Ho” (Snow White…) You know you have been hard at work and started whistling this one.

“Poor Unfortunate Souls” (The Little Mermaid) My favorite in the movie. The rest are too happy.

Best Overall Soundtracks:

the entire Toy Story series

Aladdin

Beauty And The Beast

Mary Poppins

The Little Mermaid

  1. I like pretty well all of these, though I am not as big of a fan of some of the old choral songs (i.e. You Can Fly) but the two I must add are Savages from Pocahontas (like Gaston, I think the villian songs are typically tops in most of the films) and Two Worlds, Son of Man, and Strangers Like Me by Phil Collins in 1999’s Tarzan are utterly fun, bouncy, and just great songs.

  2. Great post. Disney songs are d finitely some of my favorites. I would add Baby Mine from Dumbo and He’s a Tramp from Lady and the Tramp. 🙂

  3. I love love love this post! I definitely have to agree with thw “Be our Guest” and Pinocchio song. I think you needed to include Pocahontas’ “Colors of the Wind” and “It’s a Small World”!

  4. Glad to see Jungle Book make an appearance but Bear Necessities should have been on there
